The group was founded in 1965. It works with the municipal and communal centre , with support of the Highlanders Association in Piwniczna Zdrój. They present the folklore of Nadpopradzki region also called, “Black Highlanders”, who inhabit the Piwniczna and is situated in the Beskid Sądecki.
Their repertoire consists of songs, games, dances, rituals and customs of the people from region Nadpopradzki. The characteristic dialect for the region is also presented. The group has won many prestigious awards, including the Oskar Kolberg for services to folk culture.
In the Zakopane festival the group will present “U Wojciecha sypło ziorno” – a program showing customs related to the completion of the work of threshing , “na galosiorce”, with a hand crank in one of the mountain chalets near Piwniczna. After work the host invites people to rest, during which will be singing, dancing, stunts, riddles, also beliefs functioning in the minds of highlanders from region Nadpopradzki, designed to protect against rodents, or acts of God. The program will be accentuated by a joy of a successful harvest and respect for grain and bread. The work will be performed using traditional tools, including “galasiorka”, “mójnek” and three prong fork.
Songs and dances were developed based on field interviews and questions to local people. We will see dances, such as, polkas “Jarzembocko”, “Ściekło”, or “Śtajer” and “Zamiatana”, “Polka bez Stolek” and “Madziar.”
