Serbia “Ganip”
In the south-east of Europe, in the shadow of the Carpathians and the Balkans, at the crossroads of East and West, a colourful and varied folklore emerged. Of course, there is an extraordinary mixture of influences in Serbian folklore. Appreciated all over the world, but above all the subject of Serbian pride, dances and music will be presented this summer in Podhale. During the MFFZG you will be able to admire the performances of the folk song and folk dance group, which has been operating in Požarevac since 1958. Over 300 hundred people (including children of all ages) are choreographed there under the supervision of choreographers and accompanied by folk music groups, dances and folk songs from all over Serbia. Team work is not only rehearsals and performance, but also efforts to preserve both folk music and original costumes (some about 100 years old) and folk instruments. Artists are most likely to present traditions from their region, eastern Serbia. The closest mountains to the group are the Homolian Planie (part of the East Serbian mountains), with its highest peak of Veliki Stubelj at 940 metres a.s.l. Local patriotism does not, however, interfere with learning about promoting the culture of the rest of the country. On the festival stage you will see an overview of the most famous Serbian dances, including Hungarian and Albanian traditions of the region of Kosovo and Vojvodina. The group’s repertoire also includes dances inspired by Wallachian and Gypsy folklore. The program will also include traditional female singing and instrumentalists’ performances.
